How much should I tip?

In US restaurants, 18 to 20 percent is the current norm for table service, 15 percent for adequate service, and 25 percent for something genuinely good. Counter service and takeout carry no expectation, whatever the tablet suggests.

Do you tip on tax?

What is the quick way to work out 20 percent?

Move the decimal one place left to get 10 percent, then double it. On an 85 dollar bill that is 8.50, so 17. For 15 percent, take the 10 percent figure and add half of it.
